I remember him well, Gingey! The earliest film of Basil's I remember seeing is The Bishop Murder Case (1930) which I wanted to watch because I'm in love with Leila Hyams. I also saw him in Son of Frankenstein, The Black Cat, The Hound of the Baskervilles and many other Sherlock Holmes pictures.
Lovely Site!
I didn't realise he was born in South Africa - you learn something new every day.
Did you get that website for me?
So interesting. A fun little fact -- our cat is Named Basil Catbone in honor of the Great Sherlock Holmes Charater played by Basil!
